Hair extensions should not cause any damage to the growth and condition of your own natural hair. If they have, then you have had  bad quality hair extensions.

Hair Extension Maintenance Tips

Here’s a few tips to help get you started with caring for your new hair.  Most hair extensions can be styled in the same way as you would normally style your hair, with the exception of synthetic hair which should not be straightened or curled.  Extension treated hair should always be washed with sulfate free products (not dandruff shampoo).

To ensure that your hair extensions continually look their best. After initial treatment, the following rules apply:

• No shampooing for 48 hours to allow time for bonds to settle
• Hair should be pulled back while sleeping to prevent tangling.
• A follow up visit should be booked 2 – 4 weeks after treatment.
• Any bond slippage or discomfort should be reported to your stylist.
• Hair should be brushed slowly twice a day close to the scalp (with a wide toothed comb), separating the applied strands with the fingers to avoid matting.
• When drying the hair, always dry the base of the hair extension thoroughly to avoid bond breakdown, at a medium to low heat setting if using a dryer, followed by a cool blast to set.
• If swimming, wet the extensions completely to prevent chlorine and salt water absorption which could lessen the longevity of the hair extension.
